Théo Hennequin

Théo Hennequin is a Brussels-based graphic designer and visual artist with a conceptually driven practice spanning culture, music and sport. He collaborates with institutions, artists, festivals and collectives, from major museums to independent structures, to articulate distinctive positions across print, digital and motion.

His practice is rooted in the circulation of images and forms between swiss rigour, experimental layering and popular cultures, from the football stand to the mountain trail, using the distance between them as a space for inquiry.

About

Atlas oral

2022, Brussels

Font: Cold (Théo Hennequin), Helvetica (Max Miedinger), Migra (Pangram Pangram - Valerio Monopoli), etc.

The cover of the book *Atlas oral*, ‘Football & Supporter Culture – Monitoring Laboratory’, in off-white and grey, set against enlarged pages where the cry ‘Ahou!’ is rendered in huge grey letters, either solid or outlined

Football & supportérisme – Laboratoire de surveillance ATLAS ORAL (Football & Fan Culture – ATLAS ORAL Monitoring Laboratory) is a publication that explores the link between orality and collective engagement, focusing on chants and slogans from street demonstrations and football stands. The book visually captures the power and musicality of activists’ and supporters’ voices, transforming fleeting words into lasting graphic forms.

The layout is conceived as a rhythm, where typography becomes an instrument of the voice, modulating the pitch, intensity and tempo of the chants. Variations in font size, line spacing and composition reflect the diversity of oral expression, giving voice to collective energy and social movement.

A spread of 12 double-page spreads from the *Atlas oral*: protest chants and slogans, set in typefaces that are by turns bold, slender or repeated, arranged in pyramids, overlapping lines or striped bands, surrounded by columns of text and quotations
Four overlapping pages from the *Atlas oral*: a protest slogan arranged in a staircase pattern in white letters against a grey background; a chant in pale letters surrounding a text about railway workers; repeated English lyrics superimposed on top of one another; and a page of text about FC Sankt Pauli
