Théo Hennequin

Théo Hennequin is a Brussels-based graphic designer and visual artist with a conceptually driven practice spanning culture, music and sport. He collaborates with institutions, artists, festivals and collectives, from major museums to independent structures, to articulate distinctive positions across print, digital and motion.

His practice is rooted in the circulation of images and forms between swiss rigour, experimental layering and popular cultures, from the football stand to the mountain trail, using the distance between them as a space for inquiry.

About

Laboratoire de surveillance - football & supporterisme

2023, Paris

Fonts: Cold (Théo Hennequin), Helvetica (Max Miedinger), Migra (Pangram Pangram - Valerio Monopoli)

The cover of the book *Surveillance Laboratory – Football & Fandom* is superimposed on a black-and-white map of the Parc des Princes neighbourhood, where red rectangles indicate surveillance installations: on the grey cover, a white bird’s-eye view of a stadium is surrounded by the title in bold black letters

Laboratoire de surveillance – Football & supporterisme (Surveillance Laboratory – Football & Supporters) is an editorial design project that documents and highlights the mechanisms of control and repression to which football supporters are subjected. The 3D reconstruction of the Parc des Princes and its surrounding neighbourhood has made it possible to situate and visualise these surveillance mechanisms and to demonstrate their spatial and social impact.

The publication functions as a critical and artistic archive, where the visual experience and the physicality of the printed image enable us to question power, surveillance and repression in public and sporting spaces.

A spread of 20 pages and double-page spreads from the book: cover, chapters on Architecture, Fan Culture, Artefacts and Events set against a red or grey background, a map of the neighbourhood, 3D renderings of the stadium with silhouettes and fixtures in red, facial recognition diagrams, price histograms and a black back cover
The opening double-page spread of the ‘Architecture’ chapter: on the left, a page that is entirely red; on the right, the title in large black letters above a text on the panoptic architecture of the Parc des Princes, with a gradient from red to white in the centre; the edge of another page is visible on the right
A double-page spread in the book devoted to snipers and drones: two large white 3D renderings of the stadium and its surroundings, in which the silhouettes of police officers and a drone are shown in red, above short explanatory texts; in the left-hand margin, a grey page from the chapter on ‘Supporters’ Culture’
