Théo Hennequin

Independant graphic designer and visual artist based in Brussels (BE), working on projects in editorial design, visual identity, web design and motion design. Drawing inspiration from both Swiss graphic design and contemporary and experimental movements, he experiments with typographic compositions and the layering of elements. In doing so, he develops a unique aesthetic and theoretical repertoire.

He is also working on two separate projects. The first is a research project exploring the world of football and fan culture, focusing on aspects off the pitch and the inner workings of the sport. The second is a project drawing inspiration from mountainous landscapes, sports practised in such environments, and mountainwear.

About

Fantasme & appropriation

2021

Font: Helvetica (Max Miedinger)

Fantasme & appropriation is a publication that explores how our visual references influence creativity. Drawing inspiration from Cécile Dazord’s text Photographic Practice and Appropriationist Strategies, the book deconstructs, reframes and recombines photographs of exhibitions and everyday surroundings to create new images.

Each visual becomes material and a sensory experience, transforming the act of appropriation into a creative process. The printed object, in black and silver, halfway between an artist’s book and an exhibition catalogue, makes the print a medium in its own right, where the work extends and reinvents itself, suggesting an infinite cycle of fantasising and visual transformation.
